Ft. Smith livestock auction report

The Ft. Smith Stockyards, Ft. Smith, Arkansas, reported receipts of 1,245 head selling on Jan. 22, compared to 754 head a week ago, according to the Arkansas Department of Agriculture-USDA Market News Service, Little Rock, Arkansas.

Compared to a week ago, feeder steers and heifers under 400 pounds were selling $11 to $14 higher, over 400 pounds were selling steady to $9 higher, but were mostly selling $4 to $8 higher. Slaughter cows and bulls were selling steady. Value Added denotes cattle weaned at least 45 days, castrated and administered two sets of pre-conditioning vaccines. The supply included 784 feeder calves, 216 feeder yearlings, 134 replacement cows, 93 slaughter cows, 16 slaughter bulls and 2 replacement bulls. The feeder supply included 44% steers, 45% heifers and 10% bulls. Nearly 22% of the run weighed over 600 pounds.
