McAlester livestock market report

The McAlester Union Livestock Market, McAlester, Oklahoma, reported receipts of 1,700 head selling on Feb. 20, compared to 1,050 head a week ago and 1,200 head last year, according to the USDA-Oklahoma Department of Agriculture Market News, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

Compared to a week ago, steer calves under 400 pounds were selling $3 to $4 lower, over 400 pounds were selling $2 to $8 higher. Heifer calves were trading steady. Quality was attractive, some average. Demand was good. The supply included 29% over 600 pounds with 50% heifers. Slaughter cows were selling $1 to $3 higher and breaker cows were trading $1 lower, all on a light test. Slaughter bulls were selling $3 lower. A total of 140 cows and bulls sold with 63% going to packers.

Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 1 to 4 years old, 775 to 1275 lbs., 4 to 8 months bred, average to high quality 850.00 to 1140.00; 7 to 8 years old, 750 to 1425 lbs., 4 to 6 months bred, low to average quality 875.00 to 1075.00; 9 to 10 years old, 875 to 1200 lbs., 4 to 8 months bred, low quality 885.00 to 925.00.
