Dalhart livestock auction report
The Cattleman’s Livestock Auction, Dalhart, Texas, reported receipts of 2,258 head selling on Feb. 22, compared to 2,625 head a week ago and 2,175 head last year, according to the USDA Market News Service, Amarillo, Texas.
Compared to a week ago, steer and heifer calves under 600 pounds were selling firm, instances heifers calves were selling $1 to $2 higher. Feeder steers and heifers over 600 pounds were selling $1 to $3 lower. Demand remains strong for steer and heifer calves in spite of extremely dry conditions. Slaughter cows and bulls were selling steady to $1 higher. Trade was fairly active. Demand fairly good. The bulk of the supply was medium and large frame 1 to 2, 350- to 900-pound feeder steers and heifers. Slaughter cows made up 15%, slaughter bulls less than 1%, replacement cows less than 1% and feeders 85%. The feeder supply included 55% steers and 45% heifers, nearly 72% of the run weighed over 600 pounds.
