Fort Pierre Livestock Auction report
The Fort Pierre Livestock Auction, Ft. Pierre, South Dakota, reported receipts of 3,059 head selling on Feb. 23, compared to 5,558 head a week ago and 5,962 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News, Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
Compared to a week ago, feeder steers and heifers were selling steady to $3 lower. Quality, flesh condition and amount of tag on the cattle vary quite a little and reflect the prices received. Good demand for all classes of cattle, with several long strings of one to iron cattle in the offering. Flesh condition ranged from light fleshed on the hay fed cattle to moderate plus on the cattle being fed a higher energy ration. Market was fairly active most of the time with many buyers trying to buy cattle at their price. The offering included 33% steers, 67% heifers with 95% over 600 pounds.
