Dalhart livestock auction report

The Cattleman’s Livestock Auction, Dalhart, Texas, reported receipts of 2,901 head selling on March 8, compared to 2,491 head selling a week ago and 1,897 head last year, according to the USDA Market News Service, Amarillo, Texas.

Compared to a week ago, steer calves and heifer calves under 600 pounds were selling steady, there were instances of 400 to 550 pound steers selling $2 higher. Feeder steers and heifers over 600 pounds were selling steady to weak except, steers over 800 pounds were selling $1 to $2 lower. The supply included several strings of attractive yearlings off wheat. Slaughter cows and bulls were selling $1 to $2 higher. Trade was active on moderate to good demand. The bulk of the supply was medium and large frame 1 to 2, 350- to 975-pound feeder steers and heifers. Slaughter cows made up 9%, slaughter bulls less than 1%, replacement cows less than 1% and feeders 91%. The feeder supply included 52% steers and 48% heifers. Nearly 74% of the run weighed over 600 pounds.
