Amarillo Livestock Auction Summary

The Amarillo Livestock Auction Summary, Amarillo, Texas, reported receipts of 801 head selling on March 12, compared to 896 head last year, according to the USDA-Texas Department of Agriculture Market News Service, Amarillo, Texas.

Compared to a week ago, feeder steers and heifers were selling mostly steady. Trade was fairly active on moderate to good demand. There were several loads of steers or heifers coming off of short wheat. Slaughter cows and bulls made up 2%, less than 1% replacements and 98% feeders. The feeder supply consisted of 60% steers and bulls and 40% heifers. Near 85% of the run weighed over 600 pounds.

Steers: Medium and large frame 1, few 364 lbs., 176.00; 400 to 500 lbs., 169.00 to 179.00; lot 526 lbs., 170.25; few 625 lbs., 159.00; lot 774 lbs., 142.25. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 600 to 700 lbs., 150.25 to 152.50, lot 635 lbs., thin fleshed 161.50; 750 to 800 lbs., 136.00 to 141.00; 800 to 900 lbs., 132.00 to 138.00.

Feeder bulls: Medium and large frame 1, few 380 lbs., 163.00; few 621 lbs., 144.00.

Heifers: Medium and large frame 1, few 437 lbs., 163.00; 550 to 600 lbs., 137.00 to 139.00. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, few 377 lbs., 148.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 131.00 to 140.50; 600 to 700 lbs., 133.50 to 135.00; 750 to 800 lbs., 122.50 to 128.25; few 940 lbs., 108.50.

Slaughter cows: Boning, 80 to 85% lean, 1000 to 1250 lbs., 67.50. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 800 to 1200 lbs., 67.50 to 68.00; low dressing, 61.50.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, individual 1500 lbs., 80.00; low dressing, 1200 to 1880 lbs., 66.00 to 75.00.
