Kansas State University offers 4 grain operations courses in April

Registration is now open for four grain operations courses from the Grain Elevator and Processing Society and Kansas State University Distance Education Program. These online courses run from April 23 to May 25 and registration closes April 17. Courses are open to anyone, even if they are not a GEAPS member or a student enrolled at K-State. Online registration and more information on individual courses is available on the GEAPS/K-State Distance Education Program website at https://www.geaps.com/education/distance-education/.

GEAPS 511: Grain Facilities Planning and Design II—This advanced course provides a practical, real-world foundation for operations professionals responsible for helping plan and design grain facilities. Lectures cover site selection, rail planning, safety, security, roofing, storage and other considerations. Some lectures revisit topics from GEAPS 510: Facilities Planning and Design I in more depth.

GEAPS 525: Management of Insect Pests in Stored Grain—Participants will learn the skills to prevent and manage insect infestations using practical chemical and nonchemical methods. Lessons chronicle the most common types of insects associated with stored grain; pest management concepts including preventive and responsive tactics; and proper use of protectants and fumigants.

GEAPS 530: Quality Management Systems for Bulk Materials Handling Operations—Participants learn about quality management systems and how to use them in agricultural storage environments. This course provides strategies for integrating systems into normal business activities and teaches the skills needed to create food safety plans and develop quality management systems. After completing the course, participants should be able to do a basic quality analysis of facility operations and identify points where physical quality or economics are impacted.

GEAPS 555: Advanced and Preventative Maintenance for Grain Facilities: Conveyance Equipment—Experienced employees who deal with conveyance equipment can benefit from this advanced course. Lessons cover developing and implementing preventative maintenance programs, repair and upkeep for bucket elevators and conveyers, conveyance equipment lubrication and effective hazard monitoring.

Three of the courses, GEAPS 525, GEAPS 530 and GEAPS 555 all count towards credentials from GEAPS and Kansas State University. Learn more about the credential program on the GEAPS website at https://www.geaps.com/education/distance-education/credentials/.
