Amarillo Livestock Auction Summary

The Amarillo Livestock Auction Summary, Amarillo, Texas, reported receipts of 361 head selling on April 2, compared to 674 head a week ago and 522 head last year, according to the USDA-Texas Department of Agriculture Market News Service, Amarillo, Texas.

Compared to a week ago, feeder steers and heifers were not well tested though a lower undertone was noted. Trade was slow on light to moderate demand. Receipts were curbed by down markets and unseasonably large runs earlier due to drought conditions in the area. Cows and bulls made up 8%, with 3% replacements and 89% feeders. The feeder supply consisted of 24% steers and bulls, 76% heifers and approximately 73% of the run weighed over 600 pounds.

Steers: Medium and large frame 1, few 1113 lbs., 92.25. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, few 605 lbs., calves 120.00.

Feeder bulls: Medium and large frame 1, few 417 lbs., 163.00; few 541 lbs., 140.50; few 832 lbs., 103.50. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, few 690 lbs., 117.00.

Heifers: Medium and large frame 1, few 685 lb. calves 114.00; few 796 lbs., 110.00; lot 816 lbs., 113.50. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 500 to 600 lbs., 114.00 to 119.00; load 778 lbs., 115.50.

Slaughter cows: Breaking, 75 to 80% lean, 1400 to 1855 lbs., 60.00 to 63.25. Boning, 80 to 85% lean, 1000 to 1250 lbs., 65.00. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 800 to 1200 lbs., 60.00 to 64.00; low dressing, 52.00 to 58.00.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2. 1660 to 1716 lbs., 80.00 to 85.00; 1475 to 1690 lbs., 75.00.

Bred cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, young to aged, 900 to 1400 lbs., 3 to 9 months bred 875.00 to 1075.00 per head.

Bred heifers: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 700 to 850 lbs., 6 to 9 months bred 700.00 to 725.00 per head.
