Ft. Smith livestock auction report

The Ft. Smith Stockyards, Ft. Smith, Arkansas, reported receipts of 518 head selling on April 2, compared to 1,096 head a week ago and 1,380 head last year, according to the USDA Coop Exttension Service-USDA Market News, Little Rock, Arkansas.

Compared to a week ago, feeder steers under 600 pounds were selling $2 to $7 higher, over 600 pounds were not well tested. Feeder heifers under 500 pounds were selling $1 higher, over 500 pounds were selling $8 to $13 lower on a light test. Slaughter cows and bulls were selling $3 to $4 higher. Muddy, rainy weather continues to hamper cattle movement. The supply included 291 feeder calves, 33 feeder yearlings, 69 replacement cows, 107 slaughter cows and 18 slaughter bulls. The feeder supply included 48% steers, 44% heifers, and 8% bulls, while nearly 9% of the run weighed over 600 pounds.
