Newell sheep sales report
The St. Onge Newell Sheep Yards, Newell, South Dakota, reported receipts of 1,108 head selling on April 12, compared to 376 head selling at the March 23 sale and 584 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News, Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
There are no comparisons available due to no sale since March 23. There was very good demand for several packages of feeder lambs, slaughter ewes and strings of replacement ewes that were selling on a very active market. The offering consisted of 7% feeder lambs, 78% bred ewes, 15% slaughter ewes and bucks.
Slaughter lambs: Wooled Good and Choice 2 to 3, 12 head, 120 lbs., 152.00; 4 head, 154 lbs., 130.00. Wooled Good 1 to 3, 4 head, 170 lbs., 97.50.
Slaughter ewes: Good 2 to 3, fleshy, 44 head, 180 lbs., 51.00. Good 3 to 4, very fleshy. 12 head, 243 lbs., 45.00. Utility 1 to 2, Medium, 146 to 159 lbs., 50.00 to 52.00 (51.54); 8 head, 161 lbs., 49.00. Cull 1, thin, 19 head, 135 lbs., 38.00.
Feeder lambs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 21 head, 90 lbs., 207.00. Medium and large frame 2, 6 head, 54 lbs., 201.00; 11 head, 123 lbs., 141.00. Medium frame 1 to 2, 5 head, 45 lbs., 192.00.
