Ft. Smith livestock auction report
The Ft. Smith Stockyards, Ft. Smith, Arkansas, reported receipts of 1,429 head selling on April 16, compared to 1,118 head a week ago and 1,430 head last year, according to the University of Arkansas Cooperative Extension Service-USDA Market News, Little Rock, Arkansas.
Compared to a week ago, feeder steers and heifers under 400 pounds were selling $4 to $7 higher, over 400 pounds were selling steady to $6 higher, but were mostly trading $4 higher. Several value added calves were selling with a $5 to $8 premium. Fleshy calves were discounted up to $10. Slaughter cows were selling $3 lower. Slaughter bulls were selling $1 lower. Value added denotes cattle weaned at least 45 days, castrated and weaned at least 45 days. Fleshy denotes unweaned milk fat calves. The supply included 953 feeder calves, 176 feeder yearlings, 169 replacement cows, 118 slaughter cows, 12 slaughter bulls and 1 replacement bull. The feeder supply included 51% steers, 44% heifers and 5% bulls. Nearly 18% of the run weighed over 600 pounds.
