McAlester livestock market report
The McAlester Union Livestock Market, McAlester, Oklahoma, reported receipts of 1,300 head on April 24, compared to 1,800 head last week and 1,600 head last year, according to the USDA-Oklahoma Department of Agriculture Market News, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
Compared to the previous week, the steer calves were selling $2 to $5 higher. The heifer calves were selling $1 to $4 higher. The quality was average and the demand was good. The supply included 20% weighing over 600 pounds and 47% was heifers. The slaughter cows were selling $3 to $4 higher, except lean cows that were selling $2 lower. The slaughter bulls were selling $1 lower. The packer demand was moderate to good. A total of 385 cows and bulls was sold with 53% going to packers.
