Hub City cattle auction report
The Hub City Livestock Auction, Aberdeen, South Dakota, reported receipts of 4,250 head on May 16, compared to 5,733 head last week and 3,603 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News, Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
Compared to a week ago, the best test was on steers weighing 750 to 800 pounds and those 850 to 950 pounds were mostly steady and other weight classes of steers were not well compared. The heifers from 650 to 700 pounds and those 750 to 950 pounds were selling $4 to $6 lower except those from 850 to 900 pounds that were steady with instances of $8 lower on those from 650 to 700 pounds. There was good demand for this offering with very good demand for loads and packages of replacement quality heifers. Steers made up 41% of the feeder supply and heifers were 59% with 95% over 600 pounds.
