Hay market trade light to moderate
In Kansas, hay market trade activity is light to moderate, while demand remains very good for all types of hay. Prices for all hay types mostly steady, according to the Kansas Department of Agriculture-USDA Market News Service, June 12. Prices given on a per-ton basis, unless otherwise noted.
Southwest: Dairy alfalfa, grass hay, grinding alfalfa, ground and delivered steady, movement slow. Alfalfa, horse, small squares, $240-$250. Supreme dairy, .95-1.00/point RFV $180-$190; premium, $165-$175; good, $150-$160. New crop dairy alfalfa, 1.00/point RFV. Stock or dry cow alfalfa, $140-$155. Fair/good grinding alfalfa, $155-$165. New crop grinding alfalfa, $120-$130 standing, $150-$165 at the edge, $175-$185 delivered. Ground and delivered locally to feedlots and dairies, $175-$195, with instances $200-$230. Grass hay, none reported. Corn stalks, none reported. For the week ending June 9, 9,478 tons of grinding alfalfa and 1,397 tons of dairy alfalfa were delivered.
