Hub City Livestock Auction report
The Hub City Livestock Auction, Aberdeen, South Dakota, reported receipts of 4,982 head selling on June 13, compared to 6,801 head a week ago and 3,998 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture News, Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
Compared to a week ago, steers 900 to 950 pounds were selling $5 to $6 lower, 951 to 1100 pounds were selling steady. Heifers 800 to 1000 pounds were trading steady except 850 to 900 pounds were selling $4 to $5 lower. Other weight classes of steers and heifers were not well compared today. There was good demand for the large offering which sold on an active market. Many strings and loads of big finishing type cattle on offer, both home raised and purchased, in moderate plus to heavy flesh. Packages offered were mostly home raised, some of these being weaned fall calves, in mostly moderate to moderate plus flesh. Buyers were slightly less eager to take multiple loads today as they had been a week ago. Quality was average to attractive on this offering. Most of the area received rain at the beginning of the week bringing some relief from the hot, very dry conditions. Steers made up 67% of the feeder supply, heifers 33% and 98% over 60 pounds.
