Ft. Pierre livestock auction report
The Ft. Pierre Livestock Auction, Ft. Pierre, South Dakota, reported receipts of 5,260 head selling on June 15, compared to 12,123 head selling at the June 1 sale and 4,973 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News, Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
Compared to the June 1 sale, feeder steers and heifers were selling steady to $4 higher, there were instances of $5 to $6 higher on heifers. There was good to very good demand for this offering of large strings of high quality yearlings, and nice sized bunches of fall calves, both weaned and not weaned. There were many buyers in the seats looking to fill their empty pens and the market turned out to be very active. Flesh condition was attractive overall as most cattle were in a light flesh condition, yet there were some yearling consignments carrying moderate plus to heavy flesh. The offering included 93% over 600 pounds with 34% steers and 66% heifers.
