Springfield Livestock market report
The Springfield Livestock Marketing Center, Springfield, Missouri, reported 100% feeder cattle receipts of 2,636 head selling, compared to 3,114 head a week ago and 2,398 head last year, according to the USDA-Missouri Department of Agriculture Market News Service, Jefferson City, Missouri.
Compared to a week ago, steer and heifer calves and yearling steers were selling $2 to $6 lower, yearling heifers were selling steady. Demand was moderate, supply heavy. The feeder cattle trade is under pressure as weather, mud and big numbers of cattle move through the markets. The feeder cattle supply included 46% steers, 0% dairy steers, 44% heifers and 10% bulls. The feeder cattle supply over 600 pounds was 44%.
