Grain Elevator and Processing Society offers grain handling and processing courses in July

Registration is now open for four courses from the Grain Elevator and Processing Society and Kansas State University Distance Education Program. Two of the courses deal with grain and materials handling, while other courses address management basics and preventing explosions.

These online courses run from July 17 to Aug. 18, and registration closes July 10. Courses are open to anyone, even if they are not a GEAPS member or a student enrolled at K-State. Online registration and more information on courses are available on the GEAPS/K-State Distance Education Program website at www.geaps.com/education/distance-education/.

GEAPS 500: Introduction to Grain Operations

Learn basic but comprehensive information about operations and handling procedures at grain facilities. This course is a great introduction for new hires or anyone in need of beginner-level training.

GEAPS 501: Management Basics for Grain Facility Supervisors

Managing and supervising grain facilities are increasingly complex jobs. Learn the main duties, from budgeting, accounting and insurance to maintenance, safety, regulatory compliance and effectively managing employees.

GEAPS 544: Preventing and Responding to Grain Dust Explosions

The most effective way to prevent grain-dust explosions is to understand in detail what causes them, and then take sustained action to factor down the risks.

GEAPS 550: Materials Handling I

The first in a three-part series, this course focuses on the properties and flow characteristics of grains and other dry bulk materials. Learn to determine various material characteristics and their effect on the selection and sizing of bins, spouting and screw conveyors.

GEAPS 500 and GEAPS 501 are both required for the Credential in Grain Operations Management, and GEAPS 550 is required for both the CGOM and the Credential in Grain Processing Management. GEAPS 544 is required for the Specialist in Property and Casualty Risk Management, an extension of the Credential in Grain Operations Management. Learn more about the credential program on the GEAPS website.

Tuition for GEAPS/K-State continuing education courses is $700 for GEAPS members and $965 for non-members. GEAPS also offers flexible group training options, including courses on-demand and volume discounts.
