Aberdeen livestock auction report

The Hub City Livestock Auction, Aberdeen, South Dakota, reported receipts of 3,250 head on June 27, compared to 3,242 head last week and 1,500 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News, Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Compared to a week ago, the best test was on steers weighing 900 to 1,050 pounds that were selling $1 to $4 lower. There was different weight classes of heifers than last week so an accurate trend cannot be developed. There was good demand for the offering, which was sold on a moderate to active market. With just a few strings available, there were more loads and packages in the offering and much of the offering was home raised. The flesh varied from light to heavy. There were just a few cattle coming in off grass and quite a few were long time backgrounded cattle. The quality was average to attractive. Steers made up 67% of the feeders and 33% were heifers with 99% weighing over 600 pounds.
