Crops progressing rapidly
The first extended stretch of warm, dry weather had crops progressing rapidly throughout the state for the week ending July 8, according to USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service, Mountain Regional Field Office, Montana. The high temperature for the state was recorded in Saco at 105 degrees. The low temperature for the week was recorded in Wisdom at 25 degrees. Precipitation was reported at 82 weather stations. The highest recorded precipitation for the week was in Miles City with 1.60 inches of moisture. Topsoil moisture conditions for the state were 78 percent adequate to surplus, above last year’s 11 percent. Subsoil moisture conditions were 73 percent adequate to surplus which is above last year’s 21 percent. There were reports of crop losses due to hail in Rosebud, Treasure and Custer counties.
