McAlester livestock market report
The McAlester Union Livestock Market, McAlester, Oklahoma, reported receipts of 1,350 head selling on July 24, compared to 1,550 head a week ago and 1,000 head last year, according to the USDA-Oklahoma Department of Agriculture Market News Service, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
Compared to a week ago, steer calves were selling $7 to $9 higher. Heifer calves were selling $6 to $9 higher. Quality was attractive, few average. Demand was good. The supply included 26% over 600 pounds, with 51% heifers. Slaughter cows were selling steady to $2 lower. Slaughter bulls were selling $5 lower. Packer demand was moderate. Quality of replacement cows was mostly average. A total of 190 cows and bulls sold with 71% going to packer.
