Clovis Livestock Auction report

The Clovis Livestock Auction, Clovis, New Mexico, reported receipts of 943 head selling on July 25, compared to 2,112 head a week ago and 1,391 head last year, according to the New Mexico Department of Agriculture-LPGMN Division USDA Market News, Portales, New Mexico.

Compared to a week ago, feeder steers were selling steady to $1 higher. Heifers under 600 pounds were trading steady to strong; over 600 pounds were selling $2 to $4 higher. Slaughter cows were selling $1 to $3 lower on very limited receipts. Bulls were selling steady to $1 higher. Trade was active, demand moderate to good on limited receipts. The bulk of the supply was medium and large frame 1 to 2, 300- to 800-pound feeder steers and heifers. Slaughter cows were 3% of the offering, slaughter bulls 1%, bred cows less than 1%, pairs less than 1% and feeders 95%. In the feeder supply, steers made up approximately 68% of the run, heifers 30%, feeder bulls 2%, steers and heifers over 600 pounds totaled 64%.
