Dalhart livestock auction report

The Cattleman’s Livestock Auction, Dalhart, Texas, reported receipts of 1,356 head selling on July 26, compared to 1,125 head a week ago and 738 head last year, according to the USDA Market News Service, Amarillo, Texas.

Compared to a week ago, steer and heifer calves under 600 pounds and feeder steers and heifers over 600 pounds were trading firm, with instances selling $2 higher in a light test. Slaughter cows and bulls were selling weak to $1 lower. Trade was fairly active. Demand was fairly good. The bulk of the supply was medium and large frame 1 to 2, 450- to 850-pound feeder steers and heifers. Slaughter cows made up 27%, slaughter bulls less than 1%, replacement cows less than 1% and feeders 73%. The feeder supply included 43% steers and 57% heifers, nearly 70% of the run weighed over 600 pounds.
