Hub City Livestock Auction report
The Hub City Livestock Auction, Aberdeen, South Dakota, reported receipts of 2,156 head selling on Aug. 8, compared to 1,157 head a week ago and 3,537 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News, Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
Compared to a week ago, the best test was on heifers 850 to 900 pounds and 950 to 1000 pounds that were selling $2 to $5 higher with an instances selling $12 higher on 950 to 1000 pounds. Like a week ago, the offering consisted of mostly heifers with most selling in loads and strings. Cattle were coming both off grass and out of yards in a variety of flesh, from light to heavy. There was attractive quality for the most part. A moderate to active market was seen for this offering. Steers made up 15% of the feeder cattle, heifers 85%, 100% over 600 pounds. Lighter feeder cattle receipts expected next week with a larger offering in two weeks, Aug. 22.

Feeder heifers: Medium and large frame 1, 7 head, 616 lbs., 134.50; 5 head, 692 lbs., 142.50; 8 head, 711 lbs., 148.00; 763 to 792 lbs., 142.50 to 148.50 (146.28); 801 to 839 lbs., 137.00 to 143.75 (142.87); 868 to 892 lbs., 139.50 to 144.00 (142.86); 910 to 948 lbs., 133.50 to 146.25 (145.15); 953 to 996 lbs., 128.50 to 146.25 (137.65).
