McAlester livestock auction report
The McAlester Union Livestock Market, McAlester, Oklahoma, reported receipts of 1,800 head selling on Aug. 7, compared to 1,700 head a week ago and 1,800 head last year, according to the USDA-Oklahoma Department of Agriculture Market News Service, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
Compared to a week ago, steer calves were selling steady to $3 higher. Heifer calves under 550 pounds were selling steady to $4 higher, over 550 pounds were trading $2 to $3 lower. Quality was attractive, few were average. Demand was good. The supply included 23% over 600 pounds with 43% heifers. Slaughter cows were selling $1 to $4 lower. Slaughter bulls were selling mostly steady. Packer demand was moderate. A total of 415 cows and bulls sold with 38% going to packers.
