Ozark Regional cattle sales report
The Ozarks Regional Stockyards, West Plains, Missouri, reported receipts of 3,134 head selling on Aug. 21, compared to 3,537 head a week ago and 2,380 head last year, according to the USDA-Missouri Department of Agriculture Market News Service, Jefferson City, Missouri.
Compared to a week ago, steer calves under 550 pounds were trading $4 to $8 higher with heavier weight steers and heifer calves selling steady to $5 higher. Yearlings were lightly tested with higher undertones. Demand was very good on a moderate supply. Pasture conditions across much of the area have improved with recent rains. The volume of lighter weight offerings has decreased as renewed growth is giving producers an opportunity to hold on to calves a little longer. There was no shortage of buyers throughout the sale as the demand for grass calves has improved. The feeder cattle supply included 48% steers, 0% dairy steers, 47% heifers and 4% bulls. The feeder cattle supply over 600 pounds was 34%.
