Hub City Livestock Auction report

The Hub City Livestock Auction, Aberdeen, South Dakota, reported receipts of 2,213 head on Aug. 22, compared to 2,156 head two weeks ago and 1,559 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News, Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

This sale was not reported last week due to light feeder cattle receipts. Compared to two weeks ago, there were very few steers two weeks ago, and the best test was on steers weighing 900 to 950 pounds that were selling $3 to $4 lower. There were more heifers two weeks ago. The best test was on heifers from 1,050 to 1,100 pounds that were steady. There was good to very good demand for this offering of many packages, loads and a couple of strings of cattle both off grass and out of feed yards. The offering included 75% steers and 25% was heifers with 97% weighing over 600 pounds.
