Apache cattle auction report
The Apache Livestock Auction reported 1,654 head selling on Aug. 23, compared to 1,402 head a week ago and 1,344 head a year ago, according to the USDA-Oklahoma Department of Ag Market News, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
Compared to a week ago, the feeder steers and heifers were mostly selling $1 higher on a limited test. The steer calves were selling steady to $4 higher. There were not enough heifer calves of comparable weight to test. The quality was fair through attractive with several new crop calves on offer. The supply included 24% weighing over 600 pounds, and 38% was heifers. The slaughter cows were selling steady to $1 higher. The slaughter bulls were selling $1 lower. The packer demand was moderate. A total of 302 cows and bulls were sold with 45% going to packers.
