McAlester livestock market report

The McAlester Union Livestock Market, McAlester, Oklahoma, reported receipts of 1,200 head selling on Sept. 4, compared to 1,320 head a week ago and 1,350 head last year, according to the USDA-Oklahoma Department of Agriculture Market News, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

Compared to a week ago, steer calves were selling $4 to $7 higher. Heifer calves under 450 pounds were selling $2 to $5 lower, over 450 pounds were trading $3 to $6 higher. Demand was good. Quality was average through attractive. The supply included 16% over 600 pounds, with 49% heifers. Slaughter cows were selling $3 to $7 higher. Slaughter bulls were selling mostly $2 lower. A total of 180 cows and bulls sold with 66% going to packers.
