Winners of Nebraska Department of Agriculture Poultry Photo Contest announced
The Nebraska Department of Agriculture announced the winners of their annual Poultry Photo Contest during a special celebration at the Nebraska State Fair in Grand Island. The contest was open to Nebraska 4-H and FFA members from around the state, and NDA staff were impressed with the quality of the photographs they received.
“There are some really talented youth photographers across Nebraska, and they did a great job highlighting the state’s diverse poultry populations,” said NDA Director Steve Wellman. “We appreciate the effort these 4-H and FFA members took to capture the perfect picture for our contest and want to thank everyone for participating and making the contest a success.”
This year, NDA used the winning entries from the poultry photo contest to make an easily accessible calendar that can be found on the NDA website at nda.nebraska.gov. NDA is also using the photos online and in printed materials about the importance of biosecurity so backyard poultry owners have the information they need to keep their flocks healthy.
NDA received more than 75 photos for this year’s contest, and the participants represented 12 Nebraska counties. Congratulations to the following 4-H and FFA members who have photographs featured in NDA’s 2019 calendar: Brylee Allred of Crawford; Mahayla Allred of Crawford; Alyssa Boese of Dixon; Mary Kane of Columbus; Christopher Mercer of Gibbon; Samantha Mercer of Gibbon; Jon Oberg of Farnam; Saidi Ringenberg of Lexington; Dierck White of Hadar; and Tristian Wright of Gretna.
NDA staff members from around the state judged the entries, looking at originality, composition and photography skills.
NDA’s poultry contest was funded through a grant from the USDA Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service, Veterinary Service, Western Region.
