Hub City Livestock Auction report
The Hub City Livestock Auction, Aberdeen, South Dakota, reported receipts of 1,392 head selling on Sept. 19, compared to 3,543 head a week ago and 2,903 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News, Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
Compared to a week ago, there was a much smaller offering with many weight classes not well compared. Best test on steers 900 to 950 pounds were selling $3 higher. Best test on heifers 900 to 1000 pounds were selling $2 to $3 higher. There was good demand for yearling offerings, mostly packages with just a couple of loads, and almost entirely off grass in light to moderate flesh. Average to attractive quality on the yearlings, many tested open heifers coming to town. Steers made up 35% of the feeders, heifers 65%, with 95% over 600 pounds.
