Garden City will host gubernatorial debate on Oct. 25

The Southwest Kansas Chambers of Commerce has announced details for the 2018 Southwest Kansas Gubernatorial Debate set for Oct. 25. The Southwest Kansas Chambers of Commerce are comprised of chamber executives from Dodge City, Garden City, Grant County, Hugoton, Liberal and Scott City.

The debate is open to the public and will include the five candidates seeking election to the Kansas governor’s seat this November. The event will take place inside Clifford Hope Auditorium at Horace Good Middle School, 1412 N. Main St. in Garden City at 6:30 p.m.

Candidates who have confirmed their attendance are Jeff Caldwell, Sen. Laura Kelly, Rick Kloos, Secretary of State Kris Kobach and Greg Orman.

“It is important for Dodge City and Ford County residents to be informed about the five candidates and their platforms, in order to make the best decision this November,” said Tara Burkhart, Dodge City Area Chamber president. “Southwest Kansas is lucky to have the opportunity to hear from all candidates during this event.”

The debate will begin with opening statements from each candidate, followed by a question and answer session and rebuttals. Each candidate will provide a final statement at the end the debate. A short reception will follow where candidates will have the opportunity to mingle with guests and answer additional questions.

The debate will be moderated by Marieta Hauser, director of the Grant County Chamber of Commerce.

Details pertaining to live broadcasts and online streaming opportunities will be released at a later date.
