Mike Moreland of Harrisonville, Missouri, stepped into the role of Missouri Corn Merchandising Council chairman Oct. 1. Elected during the organization’s August board meeting, Moreland succeeded Mark Scott of Wentzville, Missouri.
Moreland previously served the state’s growers as MCMC vice chairman, secretary and treasurer as well as Missouri Corn Growers Association vice president and secretary/treasurer. Moreland also represents corn farmers nationally, currently serving on the National Corn Growers Association Market Access Action Team as well as the Resolutions Committee. He previously served on NCGA’s Risk Management Action Team and Grower Services Action Team.
“As a corn grower, it is important to recognize we all have a stake in this game and it is vital to do everything we can to promote our industry,” noted Moreland. “MCMC works hard to support Missouri corn growers and build markets for our products. With the current climate, the best way to stimulate corn grind right now is to focus on trade. We need to magnify efforts with the U.S. Grains Council and U.S. Meat Export Federation to reinforce relationships with our buyers overseas. We’re also looking forward to continuing the partnerships with our friends in the livestock and ethanol industries as we work to expand markets for our crop here at home.”
The MCMC board of directors is comprised of 15 farmers elected from across the state. This volunteer board was formed in 1984 with the passage of a corn checkoff and is committed to market development, research and education. To learn more about the corn industry in Missouri, visit www.mocorn.org.
