Hub City Livestock Auction report
The Hub City Livestock Auction, Aberdeen, South Dakota, reported receipts of 2,316 head selling on Oct. 10, compared to 4,695 head a week ago and 4,481 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News, Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
Compared to a week ago, the best test was on steers 900 to 950 pounds that were selling $3 to $5 lower and 1000 to 1050 pounds were selling mostly steady. Heifers were not well tested for comparison. There was good demand for yearling offerings that featured several strings and many packages. Mostly light to moderate flesh on the yearlings and average to attractive quality. Just a few packages of spring calves today, with mixed shots and weaning status. Demand for calves was light to moderate. Steers made up 78% of the feeder supply, 22% heifers, with 92% over 600 pounds.
