Hub City Livestock Auction report
The Hub City Livestock Auction, Aberdeen, South Dakota, reported receipts of 5,210 head selling on Oct. 17, compared to 2,316 head a week ago and 3,565 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News, Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
Compared to a week ago, yearling steers 800 to 900 pounds were selling mostly steady, 901 to 950 pounds were selling steady to $1 lower. Heifers were not well compared. There was good demand for strings, loads and packages of yearling cattle coming both off grass and out of yards. Moderate to good demand for several loads and many packages of calves, with best demand seen for fully pre-conditioned calves from reputation outfits. Steers made up 58% of the feeder supply, heifers 38%, 2% Holsteins, 58% over 600 pounds.
