Sorghum harvest progresses (Missouri)

Temperatures last week averaged 47.6 degrees, 8.1 degrees below normal. Precipitation averaged 0.50 inches statewide, 0.30 inches below normal. There were 4.3 days suitable for fieldwork for the week ending Oct. 21, USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service, Heartland Regional Field Office, Missouri. Topsoil moisture supply was rated 1 percent very short, 7 percent short, 85 percent adequate, and 7 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture supply was rated 3 percent very short, 21 percent short, 73 percent adequate, and 3 percent surplus. Corn harvested progressed to 85 percent this week. Soybeans dropping leaves progressed to 93 percent. Soybeans harvested reached 33 percent this week, which is 10 percentage points behind last year. Soybean condition was rated 7 percent very poor, 16 percent poor, 30 percent fair, 38 percent good, and 9 percent excellent. Cotton harvested reached 81 percent this week, 21 percentage points ahead of last year. Rice harvested progressed to 93 percent this week. Sorghum matured reached 95 percent and sorghum harvested progressed to 62 percent this week. Winter wheat planted for 2019 progressed to 34 percent this week, with 22 percent emerged.
