St. Onge Newell sheep sales report
The St. Onge Newell Sheep Yards, St. Onge, South Dakota, reported receipts of 4,500 head selling on Oct. 18, compared to 1,623 head a week ago and 4,746 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News, Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
Compared to a week ago, feeder lambs were selling unevenly, under 100 pounds were selling $5 to $9 lower with the exception of the 70 to 80 pounds that were selling $7 to $10 higher, over 100 pounds were selling steady to $3 lower. Slaughter ewes were selling $1 to $2 lower. There were several long strings of real green, attractive lambs this week. Feeder lambs were selling on an active market, as did the very attractive offering of replacement ewes. Moderate demand for lambs, good demand for ewes to return to the country.
