Joplin Regional cattle sales report
The Joplin Regional Stockyards, Carthage, Missouri, reported 100% feeder receipts of 5,728 head selling on Oct. 22, compared to 4,944 head a week ago and 4,927 head last year, according to the USDA-Missouri Department of Agriculture Market News Service, Jefferson City, Missouri.
Compared to a week ago, steers and heifers were trading mostly firm to $5 higher, with spots selling up to $10 higher on weaned consignments. More stable weather conditions lent some support to the calf market after Oct. 15’s sharp downturn but fleshy or unweaned calves still facing some pretty steep discounts. The supply was moderate and demand was moderate to good. The feeder cattle supply included 45% steers, 0% dairy steers, 49% heifers and 5% bulls. The feeder cattle supply over 600 pounds was 40%.
