Hub City Livestock Auction report
The Hub City Livestock Auction, Aberdeen, South Dakota, reported receipts of 2,800 head selling on Oct. 31, compared to 3,920 head a week ago and 5,535 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News, Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
Compared to a week ago, there were not enough yearling steers and heifers of different weights for a comparison. Best test on steer calves 500 to 550 and 601 to 650 pounds were selling $2 to $6 higher with an instance selling $10 higher on 500 to 550 pounds, 551 to 600 pounds were selling mostly steady. Heifer calves 450 to 500 pounds were selling $5 to $7 higher, 501 to 550 pounds were selling mostly steady. Good demand for yearling offerings. Quality was varied and flesh was mostly moderate plus with some heavy flesh. Moderate to good demand for calf offerings featuring mostly packages with just a few loads. The offering included 54% steers, 46% heifers, with 58% over 600 pounds.
