Dalhart livestock auction report

The Cattleman’s Livestock Auction, Amarillo, Texas, reported receipts of 2,663 head selling on Nov. 29, compared to 2,982 head Nov. 15 and 1,886 head last year, according to the USDA Market News Service, Amarillo, Texas.

Compared to Nov. 15 sale, steer and heifer calves were selling mostly $4 to $6 higher. Feeder cattle were not well tested due to limited comparable receipts from the Nov. 15 sale, but a higher undertone was noted. Slaughter cows were selling mostly steady to $4 higher compared to limited numbers on Nov. 15. Slaughter bulls were selling mostly steady on a limited test. Trade and demand was moderate to good. The bulk of the supply was medium and large frame 1 to 2, 500- to 700-pound feeder steers and heifers. Slaughter cows made up 19%, slaughter bulls less than 1%, replacement cows less than 1% and feeders 80%. The feeder supply included 55% steers and 44% heifers. Nearly 44% of the run weighed over 600 pounds.
