Hub City Livestock Auction report
The Hub City Livestock Auction, Aberdeen, South Dakota, reported receipts of 4,346 head selling on Dec. 5, compared to 3,790 head a week ago and 2,662 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News, Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
Compared to a week ago, steers 450 to 650 pounds and 701 to 750 pounds were selling mostly steady except for 500 to 550 pounds that were selling $3 lower and 651 to 700 pounds were not well compared, but instances were selling $2 higher on 551 to 600 pounds. Heifers 450 to 600 pounds were selling $2 to $6 lower, 601 to 650 pounds were selling mostly steady. Yearling cattle were not well compared. There was good to very good demand for several strings and loads of yearling steers and heifers in mostly moderate plus flesh with some heavy flesh at times on offer. There was moderate to good demand for many packages and several loads that made up today’s calf offering. Steers made up 52% of the feeder supply, 48% heifers, 62% over 600 pounds.
