Pratt Livestock Auction report

The Pratt Livestock Auction, Pratt, Kansas, reported receipts of 3,971 head selling on Dec. 6, compared to 4,970 a week ago and 4,416 last year, according to the USDA-Kansas Department of Agriculture Market News Service, Dodge City, Kansas.

Compared to a week ago, feeder steers 650 to 700 pounds were selling steady to $2 higher, 700 to 750 pounds were selling $3 to $6 lower, 750 to 800 pounds were selling $1 to $4 lower. Steers 800 to 900 pounds were selling mostly steady with instances of $10 higher, a higher demand was noted for this weight class. There were very few offerings of feeder heifers. On a limited test, 700 to 800 pounds were selling mostly steady to $1 higher. A heavy supply of weaned and vaccinated calves offered. Steer calves 550 to 600 pounds were selling steady to $4 lower. A lower undertone was noted on all other comparable weights. Heifer calves 400 to 450 pounds were selling steady to $5 higher, 550 to 600 pounds were selling $4 to $9 higher. Slaughter cows were selling mostly steady to $1 higher. Bulls were selling steady on a limited test. A steady to slightly higher undertone was noted on all other comparable weights. Overall, demand was good to very good, quality was average to mostly attractive, with a good crowd present. The feeder supply was 68% steers, 32% heifers, with 70% over 600 pounds.
