Aberdeen livestock auction report
The Hub City Livestock Auction, Aberdeen, South Dakota, reported receipts of 3,068 head selling on Dec. 12, compared to 4,550 head a week ago and 3,092 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News, Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
Compared to a week ago, the best test was on steer and heifer calves 500 to 650 pounds that were selling mostly steady. There were not enough yearling cattle for a comparison. There was good to very good demand for both yearlings and calves. The receipts were almost an even split with half of the offering in calves and half in yearlings. It was an active market with buyers and a few farmer feeders attending the sale. Steers made up 52% of the feeder supply, heifers 48%, with 67% over 600 pounds.
