West Plains Crops Conference set for Jan. 11 in Levelland

The West Plains Crops Conference, hosted by the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service offices in Hockley, Cochran and Lamb counties, will be held Jan. 11 in the Sundown Room, 1401 S. College Ave., South Plains College, Levelland.

“This year we have a program packed with experts on cotton and other crops in this region,” said Wes Utley, AgriLife Extension agriculture and natural resources agent in Hockley County.

The program will begin with registration at 7:30 a.m. The cost is $20, payable at the door, but advanced registration is requested by Jan. 9 to reserve a seat and guarantee a meal, Utley said.

Five Texas Department of Agriculture continuing education units—one each in integrated pest management, three general, and one laws and regulations—will be offered.

Program speakers and topics will be:

Murillo Maeda, AgriLife Extension cotton specialist in Lubbock, agronomy project updates and variety trial results.

Terry Wheeler, Texas A&M AgriLife Research plant pathologist in Lubbock, nematode research update, verticillium research and variety trial results.

Kerry Siders AgriLife Extension integrated pest management agent in Hockley, Cochran and Lamb counties, IPM update.

Lynette Judd, U.S. Department of Agriculture Farm Service Agency director in Hockley County, FSA update.

Peter Dotray, AgriLife Extension weed scientist in Lubbock, farm bill updates.

Utley, TDA laws and regulations.
