In Nebraska, alfalfa hay sold fully steady with grass hay, cornstalks and dehydrated pellets trading steady, according to the USDA Market News Service, Dec. 14. Prices given on per-ton basis, unless otherwise noted.

Eastern/central—Premium alfalfa, small squares, $6.50-$7/bale; good, large squares, $160-$180, large rounds, $90-$105 or $125-$140 delivered. Premium grass hay, large rounds, $100-$105, small squares, $160-$170; good, large rounds, $85-$90; fair, large rounds, $65-$75. Cornstalk bales, $60-$65. Soybean stubble bales, $50. Dehydrated alfalfa pellets, 17% protein, $230-$240.

Platte Valley—Good alfalfa, rounds, $105-$115. Cornstalk bales, $60-$65. Ground and delivered alfalfa, $140-$145. Ground and delivered alfalfa-stubble mix, $130-$135. Ground and delivered cornstalks, $95-$110. Dehydrated pellets, 17% protein, $215-$220. Sun-cured alfalfa pellets, 15% protein, $200.

In South Dakota, East River and West River areas, alfalfa steady to instances of $25 higher. Too few reported sales of grass to compare. Very good demand for high feed value hay suitable for dairies as supplies of that quality are much more limited.
