Clovis Livestock Auction report

The Clovis Livestock Auction, Clovis, New Mexico, Dec. 20, reported receipts of 2,159 head selling, compared to 3,200 head a week ago and 1,891 head last year, according to the New Mexico Department of Agriculture-LPGMN Division USDA Market News, Portales, New Mexico.

Compared to a week ago, steer and heifer calves and feeders were selling mostly $2 to $4 higher. A few 700 to 800 pound yearlings were selling $5 to $8 higher. Slaughter cows and bulls were selling $2 to $3 higher. Trade was active, demand good. The bulk of the supply was medium and large frame 1 to 2, 300- to 800-pound feeder steers and heifers. Slaughter cows 6% of the offering, slaughter bulls less than 1%, bred cows 15%, pairs less than 1%, feeders 78%. In the feeder supply, steers made up approximately 50% of the run, heifers 49%, feeder bulls 1%, steers and heifers over 600 pounds totaled 48%. Clovis livestock will be on break for the holidays. The next sale will be Jan. 9, 2019.
