Arkansas livestock auction summary

The summary of livestock auctions in Arkansas for the week ending Dec. 26, showed estimated receipts of 3,045 head selling, compared to 6,460 head a week ago and 9,650 head last year, according to the USDA-Arkansas Cooperative Extension Service, Little Rock, Arkansas.

Compared to a week ago, feeder steers were selling mostly $1 to $10 lower. Feeder heifers were selling mostly $3 to $9 lower. Slaughter cows were selling steady to $5 higher. Slaughter bulls were selling $3 to $5 higher. The supply included 2,000 stocker and feeder calves, 500 feeder yearlings, 175 replacement cows, 310 slaughter cows and 60 slaughter bulls. The feeder supply was 44% yearling heifers.

Pairs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 3 to 7 years old, 800 to 1200 lbs., with 100- to 200-lb. calves, 925.00 to 1025.00 per pair, few to 1300.00; with 200- to 300-lb. calves 900.00 to 1000.00 per pair.

Slaughter cows: Breakers, 75 to 80% lean, 1000 to 1500 lbs., 36.00 to 42.00; high dressing, 46.00 to 56.00. Boners, 80 to 85% lean, 950 to 1400 lbs., 39.00 to 45.00; high dressing, 45.00 to 50.00; low dressing, 27.00 to 33.00. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 900 to 1300 lbs., 35.00 to 41.00; high dressing, 41.00 to 48.00; low dressing, 25.00 to 34.00. Light, 85 to 92% lean, 700 to 950 lbs., 28.00 to 34.00; high dressing, 35.00 to 44.00; low dressing, 20.00 to 28.00.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 1000 to 2100 lbs., 60.00 to 70.00; high dressing, 70.00 to 72.00; low dressing, 57.00 to 60.00.
