Joplin Regional livestock sales report

The Joplin Regional Stockyards, Carthage, Missouri, reported 100% feeder receipts of 13,853 head selling Jan. 7, compared to 4,342 head Dec. 17 and 8,736 head last year, according to the USDA-Missouri Department of Agriculture Market News Service, Jefferson City, Missouri.

Compared to the Dec. 17 sale, steers and heifers under 500 pounds were selling $5 to $8 higher, 500 weights were selling steady to $3 higher, over 600 pounds were selling steady to $4 lower. Demand was moderate to good, supply heavy. The feeder cattle supply included 57% steers, 0% dairy steers, 39% heifers and 3% bulls. The feeder cattle supply over 600 pounds was 55%.
