Most hay trading steady
In Nebraska, hay prices are fully steady. Demand was good with several prospective buyers buzzing the phone lines trying to buy some hay to get them through till grass, according to the USDA Market News Service, March 15. Prices given on per-ton basis, unless otherwise noted.
Eastern/central—Good alfalfa, large squares, $110-$115. Premium grass hay, large rounds, $100-$105, small squares, $160-$170; good, large rounds, $90-$95. Cane, large rounds, $80-$100. Sun-cured alfalfa pellets, 15% protein or better, $260.
Platte Valley—Good alfalfa, large rounds, $110-$115. Oat hay, large rounds, $90. Cane, large rounds, $75-$85. Ground and delivered alfalfa, $150-$160. Ground and delivered alfalfa-stubble mix, $135-$140. Ground and delivered grass alfalfa mix hay, $145. Ground and delivered cornstalks, $110. Sun-cured alfalfa pellets, 15% of or better at $230.

In South Dakota, East River and West River areas, all classes of hay steady on this light offering. Very good demand due to low inventory in eastern South Dakota.
