The University of Kansas, in partnership with the Intelligence Community Centers for Academic Excellence, hosted a day-long science, technology, engineering and math boot camp June 20 at Dodge City Community College.
Tasked with investigating the source of a mock epidemic, students analyzed data, utilized specialized scientific tools and explored careers in STEM fields. In addition, the participants learned about the 18 agencies that make up the U.S. intelligence community, such as the CIA, FBI, NSA and military intelligence.
Twenty-eight students—from the Department of Defense Cyber Crime Center (DC3), Garden City Community College, Seward County Community College and area high schools—participated in the event, which concluded with a question-and-answer session at a mock congressional hearing.
